Homework / Assignments
A major new feature of the Squeebles Connect series of apps is the ability to set assignments for your children made up of specific questions you have selected. Assignments can be set for individual children or whole groups at once, with the results available for you to view once they have attempted the assignment at least once. Pass marks, pass times, questions types and more can be set for each assignment, making it possible for you to hone in one the exact types of challenges each child most needs.
The Assignments Overview Page
Tap the "Assignments" button in the main parent / teacher zone menu to access the assignments overview page.
Each assignment you currently have set up is listed on this page and the data shown will be slightly different depending on which app you're using. If you have yet to set an assignment up, this page will be blank. Below are example for Squeebles Times Tables Connect (left) and Squeebles Spelling Connect (right).
From the assignments overview page, you can access results for each assignment, edit or delete an assignment and add a new assignment. Assignments can be searched for by name, or in the case of school accounts, filtered by which teacher created them.
Adding a New Assignment
This process is slightly different depending on whether you're using the Squeebles Spelling Connect or Squeebles Times Tables Connect app. We have split the instruction below to cover both.
Squeebles Spelling Connect:
In this app, an assignment must be based on a "root" spelling list, that forms the basis for that assignment. This can either be one of our spelling lists (we have over 150 of them already created), or a custom spelling list you have made yourself.
Step 1: Go to the Words & Lists page (shown above left), find the spelling list you want to use as the basis for your assignment and tap the orange "Set as Homework" button next to the assignment in question. This will take you to the screen shown above, right.
Step 2: Fill in the following information about your assignment:
- Title: this is the name of the assignment your children will see
- Your Notes (optional): these notes are not seen by children - they are for your benefit and allow you to differentiate between similar assignments by adding some notes.
- # Words: the number of words you want the assignment to take from the spelling list. If you want to be certain a particular word is asked to all children, then you need to set this to match the number of words in the spelling list. If not, then the selection of words will be different each time the assignment is attempted.
- Pass Mark: the number of words that have to be spelled correctly to consider the assignment as having been "passed".
- Due Date: the date the assignment must be completed by.
- Assign To: which children should see this assignment when they log in?
- Teachers (school accounts only): which teachers should be able to see the results of this assignment
Step 3: Press the "Create >" button and your assignment will be saved. Any child you set the assignment for will now see this assignment when they log in and be prompted to complete it.
Squeebles Times Tables Connect:
Step 1: Tap the "Add New +" button in the top right of the Assignments screen. This will take you to the screen shown above, left.
Step 2: Fill in the following information about your assignment:
- Title: this is the name of the assignment your children will see
- Your Notes (optional): these notes are not seen by children - they are for your benefit and allow you to differentiate between similar assignments by adding some notes.
- Questions: opens the questions grid (see above, right) where you can select which questions to use as a basis for your assignment.
- Number (#) of Questions: when choosing your times tables questions from the questions grid, you can select any number of questions as a basis for the assignment. However, you can then use the "# Questions" field to choose whether to ask all of them or a selection of 12. We recommend 12 as a good number of questions for most assignments.
- Question Type: the type of question to ask in the assignment. Choices are "normal" (ie 3 x 6 = ?), "Fill the Gap" (ie 3 x ? = 18), "Word" (ie "if 3 cats each have 6 toys, how many toys do all the cats have in total") or "Mixture", which asks a random selection of the three types of question.
- Due Date: the date the assignment must be completed by.
- Pass Mark: the score that has to be achieved to consider the assignment "passed".
- Pass Time (optional): an optional time limit that must be met in order for the assignment to be considered "passed". Note that the pass mark must also be met - getting all the questions wrong really quickly doesn't count as a pass!
- Assign To: which children should see this assignment when they log in?
- Teachers (school accounts only): which teachers should be able to see the results of this assignment.
Step 3: Press the "Create >" button and your assignment will be saved. Any child you set the assignment for will now see this assignment when they log in and be prompted to complete it.
Editing an Assignment
To edit an assignment, tap the "Edit" button next to the assignments name in the list on the Assignments page. This will take you to the Edit Assignment page, where you can edit the assignment's details.
Note there are a few limitations when editing assignments:
- You cannot edit an assignment where the due date has passed.
- You cannot edit some information about an assignment if a child has already attempted it, to avoid confusion in the reporting of results.
Viewing Assignment Results
To view the results of an assignment, tap the "Results" button next to the assignment's name in the list on the main Assignments page.
This will take you to the page shown below (different for each app - see below), showing a list of each pupil the assignment was assigned to and an overview of their best mark, whether they've passed or not and when they last attempted the work (if they have at all). This screen is slightly different depending on which app you're using.
By tapping the "Attempts >" button you can see a list of all attempts that child has made and from there, a breakdown of each attempt and their answers to each question (see below for an example from each app).
