Design a Squeeble - Graylie

Franky's Squeeble, Graylie, was one of the runners-up in our "Design a Squeeble" competition that we ran during the spring of 2020. We couldn't fit the full description for Graylie onto the competition page, as Franky sent such a wonderfully detailed amount of information over. But we wanted to be able to share his story about Graylie for you, so here goes...

Graylie's Story... by Franky, 11

Graylie is 56 Years, 5 Months, 5 Days old. Graylie lives on his own little island not far off the shore of the Secret Beach (on the West of Squeeble Island). The whole island is in greyscale, which is how Graylie likes it - he once quipped in the Squeeble Daily (Chief Editor: Trig, his best friend), that his reason for moving was to get a cheaper television license. He also has a good sense of humour. Visiting friends enjoy black and white food, like Trig’s Grey Marzipan. Graylie's white spots are in fact holes, and the cause of these holes is because there is so much black-and-white television missing. Graylie’s hope is that it will all turn up at some point, and he can be full again. Note that he doesn’t experience any pain from these.

Trig once decided to buy him a full-colour television, according to Trig, the look of utter disgust on Graylie’s face was like he had just eaten a rotten lime! What happened next shocked the world! Graylie picked up the television, and hurled it far away from his island. Reports came in. First, Gumbo, Blob and Calky reported a flying object from the Squeeble-cart track. Next came Lumina, Baz, Bramble and Bebe from Bebe’s Beach, who reported a UFO. After that was Chip, Whizz and Zumba from the bouncing fields with a complaint that they ended up bouncing into it (fortunately no one was hurt), and sent it flying off in a North-Westerly direction, startling Dat and Cloud who were Sky Dash racing, and Dat ended up crashing into it, sending it over the Maths Monster’s Caves, over the Sparkling Falls and the Plumatopea fields, back over the Bouncing Fields, over Ruby’s Ice Cream Parlour, where Ruby, who thought that aliens wanted her ice cream and was overjoyed at this thought, threw some ice cream up to it, which splattered all over the screen, and said ‘No need to pay as long as you advertise in space!!!’, after which it went over the Pet Race course, where Onion thought it was the one and only magic bone, which meant he ran off course and lost the race, and then the television flew into the Snowy Lands, and collided with Eclipse’s Snow Slide competition against Kaboom and Wobble, causing it to finally Crash Land in the Land of the Gobblegooks, and all Squeebles know nothing ever comes back from there! Poor Trig was rather sad by this whole ordeal. He said ‘You could have just told me! I’d have taken it home for myself! And look at the mess you’ve made!’

He began to storm off in a huff, but Graylie called him back. ‘Cheer up, Trig,’ he said. ‘Here,’ he began, and pulled a bar of Grey Marzipan out of his pocket, ‘my apology.’ Trig was delighted at the sight of the Grey Marzipan, and he ran into Graylie’s arms, saying, ‘Oh Graylie my friend, all is forgiven. I should’ve known better anyway. From now on, I’ll respect your ways, and let you do things your way, however strange it may seem. Anyway, we’d better start cleaning up the mess quickly! That Grey Tea of yours is getting cold!’ And so they walked off to Trig’s boat, laughing together as they rowed across to Squeeble island; two friends having the time of their lives as they tidied the island and made apologies, and all was forgiven. And do you know what? They even made it back in time for tea!

Thank you Franky, for putting so much effort into bringing Graylie to life.
