Squeebles Spelling Connect
Spelling... connected!
Our latest spelling app "Squeebles Spelling Connect" includes well over 8500 of the most common English words and over 160 spelling lists, based on the UK school curriculum. You also have the ability to add your own words or short phrases, create your own custom spelling lists and record your own audio for any word, including words from languages that use accented characters, like French, Spanish or German.
Your children can sign into their profile on any device the app is installed on, as well as via our website, with their progress being saved to their profile as they work. You can set homework, add new child accounts, update settings and view stats and results remotely from your parent / teacher admin area. Schools and tutors can also purchase the app on behalf of their pupils.
(includes a full, 7 day, free trial)

4 Spelling Test "Modes"
Spelling tests can be attempted from 4 different sources:
- Squeebles Lists: these are spelling lists we put together, in line with the UK curriculum. There are over 160 spelling lists, split into 4 levels, based on spelling level / age. A full list of all these spelling lists and the words they contain can be found here.
- Custom Lists: these are spelling lists you have created yourself. They can be used to help your children practise specific types of word, to set up lists based on a particular theme, or where you might want to amend one of our pre-recorded lists to add or remove words.
- Tricky Words: this section contains words that have previously been spelled incorrectly by your child. Words are pulled at random from the list of incorrectly spelled words to form a 10 question test, meaning your children are each presented with the words they've been struggling with. You can set how often each child has to spell a word correctly before it's removed from this list.
- Assignments / Homework: whether you're a parent, tutor, or teacher, you can set assignments for your children to attempt. The pass mark and a completion date can be set for each piece of homework and you can include either a whole spelling list, or a selection of words from a list. Children are alerted to new homework when they log in and can attempt each piece of homework as many times as they like. Homework can be based on either our pre-recorded Squeebles spelling lists, or your custom lists.
Word Searches and "Word of the Day"
The main part of the app centres around children taking "regular" spelling tests, where they're asked to spell each word, but we also offer a couple of extra game modes that support their learning...
- Word Searches: any spelling list can be attempted in word search format, where the words are hidden within a grid of letters. There are 3 difficulty levels that use different grid sizes. You can switch access to word searches on or off on a per-child basis. Word searches are not linked to the reward system in quite the same way, to avoid children collecting all the rewards by just doing word searches rather than spelling tests.
- Word of the Day: every day a new word features in our Word of the Day game, accessible from the first page your child sees when they log in. This involves positioning the letters of the day's word in the correct order, with a sentence provided as a clue.
The Reward System
There are 35 Squeebles to collect and these are earned by reaching milestones in terms of how many words have been spelled correctly over time.
By doing well in their spelling tests, children can also earn turns on the Sky Glider mini-game (see below), stars to trade for increasingly exciting mechanical birds to fly on, as well as power-ups to help them fly faster, further and avoid obstacles.
Points are also awarded for spelling words correctly, with a high score table showing who is currently the most successful speller of the week and of all time. School accounts also show intra-school high score tables.

SEN Features
The app features the OpenDyslexic font throughout, which is a well-known typeface, designed to support people who struggle with some of the key features of dyslexia when reading.
The app also features an optional coloured overlay that can be assigned on a per-child basis, to appear over the top of the app's content. The colour and opacity can be altered to suit each child.
We also offer the option of turning things like timers off, which some children find stressful.
If there are any SEN features you would like to see us add to Squeebles Spelling Connect, please let us know.
Parent / Teacher Zone
Your account gives you a unique login to access the parent / teacher zone within the app. This allows you to:
- Access over 160 spelling lists we've created, based around the UK curriculum.
- Create your own custom spelling lists with the exact words you want your children need to practise.
- Record your own audio for each word, or choose from the 8500+ words we already have audio recorded for.
- Create spelling lists in any language, including using accented characters to aid learning French, German, Spanish and others.
- Set assignments or homework specific to each child and receive their work back once they've completed it.
- Set children up with their own logins that they can use on any device where the app is installed (iOS, Android, Chromebook and PC / Mac via a web browser all supported)
- Manage your children's accounts, including personalising their settings to suit them, their learning stage, educational needs and confidence level.
- Lock whole spelling levels for each child, so they are only presented with words that suit their learning level and challenge them to keep developing their knowledge.
- View results of all spelling tests and word searches your children attempt, with full stats and a breakdown for each word so you can see where they are being successful and where they might be spelling words incorrectly.
- Monitor each child's overall progress over time.
- Set up classes or groups (school / tutor accounts only) so assignments can be set for groups of children. School accounts also allow the addition of multiple teachers, who can be assigned to specific classes, with access to set assignments for their own classes etc.
- Manage your subscription and profile, including handling subscription payments via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store (family and tutor accounts only - school accounts are paid via bank transfer).

Web Version - Play Online
Your children can now
use the app online via a web browser, on PC, Mac and Chromebook. Most recent browsers will work, including Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera. We recommend using the most recent browser your device will support. Some older browsers / devices may not have the capability to run the web app smoothly.
Web Version - Limitations
- Audio Recording: we have blocked the ability to record audio via your web browser for now, as it was simply too unreliable, due to the huge number of combinations of browser type, microphone quality and software installed on different computers. We are working to support this in the future, once the technology allows for it, but for now, you will need to use either an iOS device (iPad or iPhone) or an Android device with a built in microphone to record your own custom audio. Audio you record on either of those platforms WILL play back via the web version of the app for your children to hear when taking spelling tests.
- Payment Processing: At the moment, you cannot take out a subscription via the web version of the app, so until that is possible, you will need to download the app on either the Apple App Store or Google Play and take your subscription out via one of those platforms.
